Cash Register has ended, but Make me a Winner is back.
Explanation
The UK’s biggest radio competition, normally running Monday to Friday. Listen in to Hits Radio network stations to find the week’s amount, or check here! You can enter online, by phone, or by SMS (see below). Check back to on the day of the draw to find out the cash register amount today. You must know the prize amount to win. Unlike Make Me A Winner, you do not need to answer with a phrase. Make me a Winner and Cash Register tend to alternate, meaning that one of the two are normally active,
The Cash Register used to be a daily competition with quite random prize amounts. For this summer at least, it’s changed to a weekly competition with fairly round numbers. This is a bit less interesting, but I guess the network makes more money this way. On the flip side, you don’t need to spend as long completing the free entries.
Cash Register Rules and Entry
Answer the phone within five rings after the lines close at 5pm, and know today’s Cash Register amount (above). Entries are only valid from the United Kingdom, and you can enter by calling 0330 880 4557, which may be free if your contract has inclusive minutes. You can enter up to 60 times this way, but the maximum entries can be higher if they have a ‘special’ offer on paid entries. Basically, keep entering until you get an engaged tone or a message that states you have reached the maximum amount of entries.
You can text CASH to 61054 (up to 12 times), which will cost £2 plus your network charge. Alternatively, the you can buy entries online. I really wouldn’t recommend any of the paid entry options – they are quite expensive and the odds of winning are very low.
Can you still enter for free?
If you have a phone contract with inclusive minutes (most have free calls and texts, so check) – then you probably can. Check your phone contract if you are unsure. It’s a bit more hassle than the old online entry, but on the flip side it probably means that less people are going to do it. That would give you a greater chance of winning!
You can ‘autodial’ an entry by using commas. A single comma represents a 2 second delay, and you just add the number 1 at the appropriate points. For example: 03308804541,1,,,,,,,,,1 should work for this competition. Alternatively, use the links below to make the call. Is this allowed? I think so, but I’m not a lawyer.
Call the competition line directly below:
Are autodial entries allowed?
The General Terms and Conditions have this to say:
“Automated Entry: The use of any automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that permits any person to enter any Competition repeatedly is prohibited.”
Using the automated dial sequence does not allow you to enter repeatedly, it allows you to automate button presses after you have made the call. I think that’s fine, but you may interpret the above differently. Full competition details can be found on the official Cash Register website.
More about the radio competition
The Hits Radio Network’s competitions have handed out over £11,000,000 so far this year. It’s wonderfully simple – listen in to one of their stations and make a note of the week’s amount. It could be a nice round number, or it could be something a bit trickier – such as £74,123.45 (yes, it can go down to pence). Write the amount down, or check back in here before the call to make sure you know the exact prize amount.
A lucky entrant will be selected and called around 5pm; the call must be answered within 5 rings and contestant must know the exact amount. So don’t leave your phone on silent or forget how much is up for grabs – it’s terrible to hear people get it wrong!
The competition’s terms and conditions are in addition to Bauer Media Group’s Competition General Terms & Conditions.
The competition runs across the following radio stations:
Absolute Radio, Absolute Radio 60s, Absolute Radio 70s, Absolute 80s, Absolute Radio 90s, Absolute Radio 00s, Absolute Radio 10s, Absolute Radio 20s, Absolute Radio Classic Rock, Absolute Radio Country, Clyde 1, Cool FM, Cool Old Skool, Downtown Country, Downtown Radio, Forth 1, Greatest Hits Radio, Heat Radio, Hits Radio, Hits Radio Pride, Jazz FM, Kerrang! Radio, KISS, KISSTORY, KISS Bliss, KISS Dance, KISS Fresh, KISS Garage, Magic Radio, Magic Chilled, Mellow Magic, Magic at the Movies, Magic at the Musicals, Magic Soul, MFR, Northsound 1, Planet Rock, Scala Radio, Tay FM, West FM, Win Happy.
Alternative phone numbers
The competition is run across many radio stations so there are several phone numbers. If you have problems getting through, give these a try:
- 0330 880 4523
- 0330 880 4536
- 0330 880 4557
- 0330 880 4576
- 0330 880 4594
- 0330 880 4608
- 0330 880 4615
- 0330 880 4629
- 0330 880 4682
Alternative SMS numbers (expensive) are:
- WIN – 63103, 81215, or 64100
- CASH – 61054 or 63103
- YES – 61025
- ROCK – 64100
- WIN – 65115
When is the winning call made?
Normally within 15 minutes of the lines closing – so between 1700 and 1715. The terms and conditions don’t actually state a time period for the phone call, so it could happen any time after the entries close.
The calls are edited before airing, which is why it seems like the call happens quite a bit later.
What if I don’t answer the phone?
Just as though you got the prize amount wrong, failing to answer within five rings means that you miss out. Don’t fret too much if you did miss a call at around the right time; statistically it is very unlikely to have been the radio network.
Previous winners
There have been hundreds of cash register winners over the years. You can see some of the more recent successful entrants and listen to them receiving their phone call on the competition’s winners page.
Beware of scams
This is such a popular competition that, unfortunately, some scammers have appeared to take advantage of people. Most of these are on social media and claim to get you extra free entries.
Don’t enter your personal details on anything other than the official competition website. If you have in the past and you get a phone call, remember that you would never be asked for your bank card number.

I am surprised to learn the draw is at 3pm. As a Pirate FM listener, we are told the draw will be ‘sometime after 3pm’ but in fact it is always around about 3:45 -3:50. We are led to believe that this a ‘live’ draw. It would appear that by the time we hear the draw it was in fact drawn about 45mins earlier, so we are listening to an edited replay? I suspect that many listeners in Cornwall are not aware of this, and may not be checking their phones at 3pm. This does not sound right!
Should Pirate FM be told to conform and stop this pretence !!
As far as I’m aware, the call is normally between 1500 and 1510. They edit and replay the call closer to 1600.
Your information is wrong, you need to go back and read it properly. It’s not the normal cash register.
Hi Joe. That’s why the entry cap, call time, and date are specified at the top of the page.
Has anyone been blocked for more than one round this way? “Basically, keep entering until you get an engaged tone or a message that states you have reached the maximum amount of entries.”
Not as far as I’m aware. There’s nothing in the rules that says you can’t ring the number more than the max free entries. People are also unlikely to keep trying beyond the first tone or message.
